What is DVA-funded Exercise Physiology?

DVA-funded exercise physiology aims to assess and manage service-related (or general) clinical conditions through evidence-based, individualised exercise programs designed and supervised by accredited Exercise Physiologists.

Only ESSA-accredited Exercise Physiologists registered with Services Australia can deliver these services under the DVA allied health arrangements

Types of DVA Veteran Cards

Veteran Gold Card

Provides unlimited, clinically-necessary healthcare for all medical conditions (service-related or not) at no cost to the veteran

Veteran White Card

Covers treatment only for DVA-accepted conditions or specific illnesses under Non-Liability Health Care (e.g. mental health, cancer)

Veteran Orange Card

Grants access to subsidised pharmaceuticals via the Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS), but does not cover allied-health or exercise physiology consultations

Referral and Treatment Cycle

Obtain a Referral
- From a GP, medical specialist, hospital treating doctor or discharge planner under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) beta.dva.gov.auDepartment of Veterans' Affairs.
- DVA-issued referrals are typically valid for 12 months or as specified on the referral form beta.dva.gov.au.
Treatment Cycle
- Each referral allows up to 12 consultations per treatment cycle. A new referral needs to be obtained at the end of each cycle from your GP unless you're approved for continuous treatment.
- TPI (Totally and Permanently Incapacitated) clients follow the same cycle arrangements for allied health services beta.dva.gov.au.
No Out-of-Pocket Costs
- DVA covers the full fee; providers cannot charge gap fees or travel costs for gym/pool visits under these arrangements Department of Veterans' Affairs.

EP10 Initial Consultation (min. 20 min, includes care plan):
- GST-exclusive: $73.30; GST-inclusive: $80.63
EP11 Subsequent Consultation (min. 20 min):
- GST-exclusive: $73.30; GST-inclusive: $80.63

Home-Visit Consultations

EP12 Initial Home-Visit Consultation (≥ 20 min + travel):
- GST-exclusive: $78.75; GST-inclusive: $86.63
EP13 Subsequent Home-Visit Consultation:
- GST-exclusive: $73.30; GST-inclusive: $80.63

Telehealth Consultations

EP70 Video Subsequent Consultation:
- GST-exclusive: $73.30; GST-inclusive: $80.63
EP71 Phone Subsequent Consultation:
- GST-exclusive: $73.30; GST-inclusive: $80.63

Group & Aquatic Sessions

EP30 Group Exercise Physiology (2–12 clients, ≥ 30 min):
- GST-exclusive: $32.80; GST-inclusive: $36.08
EP31 Supervised Individual Aquatic EP (includes pool entry):
- GST-exclusive: $73.30; GST-inclusive: $80.63
EP32 Supervised Group Aquatic EP (per client, 2–12 clients):
- GST-exclusive: $32.80; GST-inclusive: $36.08

Treatment Cycle Report

EP90 End of Cycle Report:
- GST-exclusive: $33.65; GST-inclusive: $37.02
